Audience Research Study for Free Press Unlimited

Audience research on media consumption and information needs among audiences inside Syria.

OVERVIEW

Understanding media audiences inside Syria

For independent media to serve people well, it has to understand them — what they watch, read, and trust, and what they need from the information around them. Free Press Unlimited commissioned JRC to study media audiences inside Syria, examining the role independent media plays in daily life and how audiences see themselves represented in the wider media landscape.

ABOUT

Listening to audiences to strengthen independent media

  • Media

An audience research study built to inform, not just describe — surfacing how people consume media and what that means for the organisations trying to reach them.

APPROACH

JRC implemented the study across ten locations inside Syria using a mixed-methods approach, combining 1,200 audience surveys with in-depth interviews with media experts. The findings generated strategic insights to help independent media organisations refine their content, outreach, and engagement strategies — grounding those decisions in real audience perceptions and behaviours.
